We threw out the idea of a Cranksgiving ride a while back ... The vision is now realized in what looks to be a fun alleycat race Sunday, November 18 ... You can read all about it at the Cranksgiving Ann Arbor blog ...
Things here have been quite quiet over the past few months- almost totally dead actually. Please don't think that we're gone for good ... because we aren't ... As is often the case, things get pretty nuts in the business as we get anywhere near the major tradeshows, with Interbike being the biggest for most of us who play in this sandbox of a blog. The weeks (even months) before Interbike can be an absolute hell and then the following weeks (or even months) can be just as bad as you scramble to
I was appointed to the Saint Paul Bicycle Advisory Board last February ... A few months in, I can see the frustrations that others have experienced in this sort of capacity ... The BAB is a Mayor-appointed committee with members from each of Saint Paul's seven Wards (I'm Ward 5) and a couple of at-large members ... There are also representatives from Parks and Recreation, the Police and Public Works ... We are to provide public input to the city on bicycle aspects of Saint Paul transportation
I just did the League of American Bicyclists League Certified Instructor training last weekend in Des Moines, something I'll write up this evening or tomorrow ... Once the paperwork goes through, I'll be the fourth currently-active LCI in Minnesota ... I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to do with this, to tell you the truth, but have been thinking about bicycle education these past few days ... Imagine my delight when, while riding in this morning, I overtook a pack of maybe 40 cyclists going
A lot has been made about the demise of the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team and the impact that may have (or just signify) on our business sector ... It’s surprising how long Discovery and its’ infrastructure survived in this game, and it seems likely that not only had they made their marketing point, but that winning Tour after Tour (even Lanceless) became boring for the VIPs of all parties ... But have you noticed the developments that are happening? ... Three domestic teams are on the
The first Catford Cycling Club ‘Hill Climb’ was held at Westerham Hill on August 20th 1887. The 112th edition will take place on Yorks Hill in Kent, on Sunday 21st October at 11am. The race is run as a time trial with riders starting at one minute intervals to race just 707 yards, which in [ ... ] ...
Earlier today the American Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld Floyd Landis’s positive doping test and awarded a two year ban, which will mean Landis will be able to compete again in 2009. Spain’s Oscar Pereiro was declared the winner of the 2006 Tour de France. “You never want to win a competition like that [ ... ] ...
Velo News has done a rough analysis of the very positive numbers coming out of this years Tour de France - fortunately not the positives we usually think about - it was all crowd numbers, television audiences and print media, all of which appear to have experienced solid increases, and in the case of bike sales there is anecdotal evidence that, doping or not, the Tour is good for anything connected to cycling ... I was also very interested in web viewing numbers, knowing that my own blog stats
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person in the cycling industry who is kind of looking forward to this year's Tour de France being over. The marquee event in the world of cycling has become the proving ground for new products and a bicycle industry marketing circus. Even companies who have no product in the event benefit from the overflow of attention given to the sport and by extension the industry itself. It's been a great ride, in many ways, for the US cycling industry as well ... It began in
With six months to train for Europe's toughest mountain bike race, it should have been a simple journey from trembling sack of flab to whittle-thin cycling machine. It wasn't ...
